Agriculture ministers agree to protect soils

Agricultural ministers from 68 countries attended the Global Forum for Food and Agriculture (GFFA) in Germany.
The ministers signed on to a communique which was presented to the Director-General of the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).
Summary of the agreement
Key points of the communique, the first of its kind, are:
Soils must be protected.
Progress must be made with climate change mitigation and climate adaptation.
Soil biodiversity is vital for healthy soils.
Fair (rights-based) access to agricultural land should be guaranteed.
Investment, research, innovation, and digitalization can play a significant role in making the use of soils more sustainable.
Resilient and sustainable food systems must be supported.

The communique is lengthy but definitely worth a read and gives a good idea of what regulatory and market changes can be expected.
